St Ives looks beautiful from the shore, but the view is something else when you’re out on the water. Tiger Lilly runs small-group boat trips from St Ives Harbour, taking passengers along the rugged Cornish coastline in search of seals, seabirds and, if luck is on your side, dolphins.
The much-loved Seal Island trip heads towards the rocky outcrops known as the Western Carracks, where Atlantic grey seals can often be seen resting on the rocks or swimming nearby. Other trips head towards Godrevy Lighthouse, while the longer Beyond the Bay adventure explores more of the coast, including coves and inlets around Zennor and Gurnard’s Head. There are also mackerel fishing trips, twilight wildlife outings and private charters for special occasions.
The boat is a 33-foot Lochin vessel carrying up to 12 passengers, making this a more intimate way to experience the coast than a large sightseeing boat. The crew are passionate about local marine life, and Tiger Lilly is a WiSE-accredited wildlife-safe operator, taking care to observe seals from a responsible distance.
Best of all for dog owners, dogs travel free on all trips. Bring your canine first mate along, enjoy the fresh sea air and see this stretch of Cornwall from a completely different angle. Wildlife sightings beyond the seals can never be guaranteed, and all trips depend on the weather and sea conditions.
