About Kosel Treehouses
Every dog deserves one trip up a tree, and this is the place to do it. Patrick and Maddie Spink hand-built Kosel Treehouses in the woods above Gweek, at the head of the Helford River on Cornwall’s Lizard Peninsula. Their long, gently curved designs are like nothing else around, and they make these some of the most memorable dog-friendly treehouses in Cornwall.
Kalmynsi, the Cornish word for calm, is a cedar-clad hideaway for two. There’s a sleek open-plan kitchen, a cosy living space with an Ekol log burner, a vintage-style record player and a king-size bed in a separate bedroom, plus your own balcony to wake up on. Outside, a handmade Japanese-style wood-fired hot tub sits in a private lounging area sunk into the hillside, with a chiminea for evenings watching the sunset over the hills.
Daskor, meaning restore, was designed by Maddie’s dad and sleeps up to five, so the whole family can come. Clad in larch, it has two king-size beds at opposite ends of the treehouse, a single bed in the second bedroom, a kitchen, a Jotul woodburner, an LP player and a walk-in rainforest shower. The chestnut balcony has an outdoor stone bath with views over the trees, and there’s a barbecue, pizza oven and fire pit for long evenings outside.
Both treehouses welcome up to two dogs, at £30 per dog per stay. Just let the team know when you book. There’s a dog bowl waiting, though you’ll want to bring your dog’s own bedding. Dogs stay off the furniture, and as the neighbouring field sometimes has livestock, they’ll need to be on a lead up there. The third treehouse, Skapya, is dog free.
You’re surrounded by fields and young woodland to explore, and Gweek itself has a dog-friendly pub in The Black Swan, the Café at the Boatyard and a village shop. The Cornish Seal Sanctuary is right there too, and the Helford River is perfect for kayaking and paddle-boarding. With plenty of dog-friendly beaches, woodland walks and countryside trails nearby, you’ll both sleep well.
