The Old Sunday School

The Old Sunday School is a beautifully converted former Wesleyan schoolhouse in the peaceful Cornish village of Harrowbarrow. Designed as a luxurious retreat for two, it’s a particularly good choice for couples who want to bring their dog along rather than compromise on where they stay.

Inside, the Grade II listed building has plenty of character alongside a smart, contemporary finish. The open-plan living space has underfloor heating, a log burner, well-equipped kitchen and plenty of home comforts, while upstairs there’s a super king bedroom with its own ensuite shower room and dressing area.

Dogs get a proper welcome here too. Bowls, blankets and treats are provided, there’s an outside hose for muddy paws and guests have access to a field where dogs can get some exercise. Step outside and you’ll find a south-facing patio overlooking the Tamar Valley, with outdoor furniture, a barbecue and countryside views. There are plenty of walks in the surrounding area, while nearby Kit Hill Country Park is a great place to stretch your legs and take in the views.

The location also works well if you want to explore further. Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor, Tavistock, Cotehele and Whitsand Bay are all within reach, giving you a good mix of coast, countryside and moorland during your stay. The neighbouring village of Metherell is around a 15-minute walk away and has a traditional pub.
