Previously voted Best British Beach by BBC Coast, Crantock Beach offers a large expanse of fine golden sand between West Pentire and Pentire headlands. Run by the National Trust, Crantock Beach is dog friendly all year round.
Crantock Beach lies on the Gannel Estuary and is backed by looming dunes. Transport across the picturesque river is provided by a short ferry service to and from the Fern Pit Cafe. The River Gannel at the northern end of the beach is popular among families, especially those with dogs as it’s the ideal spot for sheltered bathing, splashing around and cooling off in the river.
At the other end of the beach the high cliffs and dunes also provide a good spot for seeking shelter from the wind. From here you’ll also be able to watch surfers of all abilities take to the waves. A short walk up the dunes at the southern end of the beach, you’ll find the dog friendly C-Bay Cafe, Bar & Bistro, serving coffees, homemade cakes, smoothies, paninis and more each day.
Crantock is a just a 15-minute drive from Newquay and parking is available in the National Trust car park. The beach is lifeguarded from mid May until the end of September.
