Run by lifelong dog lover and trained chef Etta Ware, this charming Victorian cottage has built its reputation around making dogs feel every bit as welcome as their owners. From the moment you arrive, it’s clear this isn’t somewhere that merely tolerates pets – they’re celebrated.

Just a couple of minutes from Beer Beach and the South West Coast Path, Westleigh is perfectly placed for days spent exploring East Devon’s Jurassic Coast. Wander through the village to the shingle beach, watch the local fishing boats return with their catch or set off along spectacular coastal trails towards Branscombe or Seaton. It’s a dream location if your ideal holiday involves fresh sea air, great food and plenty of adventures with your dog.

Inside, the atmosphere is relaxed and homely. Two of the three individually styled bedrooms offer comfortable king-size beds, the third a standard double, in addition to thoughtful welcome trays, fresh milk, homemade goodies and even fridges for storing dog food. Every dog receives treats, bowls, a suitable dog bed and a complimentary bag of premium grain-free dog food, while owners can enjoy cooked breakfasts made with quality local produce.

After a muddy coastal walk, Westleigh really comes into its own. There’s a dedicated dog bath, foot scrubs, drying towels and powerful dog blasters to get your companion clean before settling down in the lounge or conservatory. Dogs are welcome throughout the house (apart from the kitchen), so nobody gets left behind.

Food is another highlight. Etta is a professionally trained cook and offers pre-booked evening meals showcasing seasonal Devon produce and freshly landed seafood from Beer when available. It’s a lovely alternative to venturing out after a long day on the coast.

Beer itself is one of Devon’s prettiest villages, with independent cafés, welcoming pubs and a relaxed pace of life. Beyond the village, you’ll find Sidmouth, Lyme Regis, Seaton Wetlands and countless walking routes within easy reach, making Westleigh an excellent base for discovering the Jurassic Coast.
