Description

There are few places in Cornwall where the landscape does quite so much of the talking. At St Enodoc Hotel, the Camel Estuary stretches out below you, the beaches of Rock and Daymer Bay are close enough for spontaneous walks, and Padstow is just across the water.

Set in the coastal village of Rock, St Enodoc Hotel by Paul Ainsworth combines a relaxed approach to hospitality with one of North Cornwall’s most enviable locations. The hotel has been reimagined as part of The Ainsworth Collection, bringing together comfortable accommodation, destination dining and plenty of space to slow down and enjoy the surroundings.

For dog owners, the location is particularly hard to beat. St Enodoc has 10 dedicated dog-friendly guest rooms, with up to two dogs welcome per room. Dogs are charged at £15 per night each and need to be pre-booked, including when you want to dine with them. Dog towels are provided and there’s a shower at the hotel for those inevitable post-beach rinses.

Then there are the beaches. Rock Beach, Daymer Bay and Porthilly are all within easy reach, and dogs are welcome on Rock and Daymer Bay throughout the year. The surrounding coastal paths also provide plenty of opportunities for longer walks, with the Camel Estuary and North Cornwall coastline providing a spectacular backdrop.

Inside, the hotel has 17 double rooms and four suites. Many look across the Camel Estuary, while others overlook the gardens or surrounding countryside. Rooms have been designed to be comfortable rather than fussy, with Super King beds, modern bathrooms and original artwork. Family accommodation is available too, including a spacious family suite sleeping two adults and four children.

The hotel’s food offering is another major reason to stay. The new Estuary Grill by Paul Ainsworth celebrates Cornwall’s land and sea, with locally sourced meat and fish cooked over an Asado grill. The restaurant also brings in influences from Paul Ainsworth’s Seychellois heritage and the flavours of the Indian Ocean, with dining available indoors or on the rooftop terrace overlooking the Camel Estuary.

For something more relaxed, the Flour Garden offers seasonal pizzas, salads, light bites, coffee and ice cream in the landscaped gardens. Meanwhile, the St Enodoc Bar & Terrace is designed for lingering over a drink, with local beers, cocktails and wines and views across the gardens and coast.

The hotel is also exceptionally well placed for exploring beyond Rock. Take the short ferry across to Padstow, cycle the Camel Trail from nearby Wadebridge, explore Polzeath or head further afield to the Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan. For water lovers, Rock is a hub for sailing, surfing, paddle sports, fishing and other watersports.

And if you simply want to stay put, there’s plenty to enjoy without getting back in the car. Take your dog for a morning beach walk, settle down for lunch overlooking the estuary, wander through the gardens and finish the day with dinner and a drink on the terrace.
