About Orchard House Hotel
Orchard House sits beside the River Lyn at the foot of the Watersmeet Valley, about 100 yards from the beach and a few minutes’ walk from Lynmouth harbour. It’s a Grade II-listed house with just five bedrooms, and Yvonne and Jason have been looking after guests here for about ten years.
Every room is different. Two have carved four-poster beds, there’s a family room with four single beds looking out over the river and sea, and a suite with its own dressing room. Each one comes with homemade biscuits and Devon fudge waiting on arrival. Downstairs there’s a lounge with a log burner, a licensed bar with local beers, a garden and terrace, and a hot tub for after a long day on Exmoor.
Breakfast is cooked on Bessie, a cooker that’s more than 90 years old. The full English uses bacon, eggs and sausages from local farms, and there are vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options too. They’ll also make you a packed lunch, or a picnic basket to take down to the beach.
Dogs are welcome, but let the hotel know before you arrive, as a small charge may apply. Dogs get a welcome box from the Lyn Valley Dog House, a local shop that also keeps a list of dog-friendly businesses in the area.
The Tarka Trail, Two Moors Way and Coleridge Way all finish in Lynmouth. The Valley of Rocks, with its herd of feral goats, is under two miles away, and Watersmeet is a two-mile walk upriver along the East Lyn. The hotel also has bikes for guests to use.
