Dating back to 1086, Duvale Priory is a characterful dog-friendly country house set in the Exe Valley near Tiverton. With plenty of room for larger groups and beautiful Devon countryside all around, it’s a great choice for bringing several generations of the family together for a holiday or special occasion.
The Priory has eight bedrooms and sleeps up to 26 guests. The bedrooms are arranged across two separate staircases, with a mixture of double and single beds that works particularly well for larger family groups. There’s also a ground-floor double bedroom, making the accommodation more convenient for anyone who would prefer not to use the stairs.
Downstairs, there’s a large farmhouse kitchen for preparing meals together and a spacious dining room with enough seating for the whole group. A large main lounge and smaller second lounge give everyone room to spread out, while the pool table room provides some extra entertainment when you’re spending an evening at the house.
Dogs are welcome at Duvale Priory by arrangement, and the property’s rural location makes it particularly appealing for a holiday with four-legged family members. Outside, there’s a large private walled garden with seating and a BBQ area, giving you useful outdoor space without having to leave the property. There are also countryside walks around Duvale and plenty more places to explore across the surrounding Exe Valley.
The location makes a good starting point for discovering this part of Devon. Bampton and Tiverton are nearby, while Exmoor National Park is within easy reach for longer walks and days out. Both the North and South Devon coasts can also be explored on day trips if you want to combine countryside walks with time by the sea.
Guests can keep things completely self-catering or enquire about having a choice of hot meals delivered to the property, which could be particularly useful when organising food for a group of this size.
For families looking for a large dog-friendly holiday house in Devon, Duvale Priory combines plenty of space with a fascinating history, a private garden and an excellent countryside setting.
