Dog-Friendly Accommodation in Somerset

Where to stay in Somerset with your dog

Somerset gives you a bit of everything with a dog: the heather and combes of Exmoor, the Quantock Hills, the Mendips around Cheddar Gorge, and miles of sand at Brean and Berrow. In between there are cider farms, market towns and plenty of country pubs where dogs are welcome by the fire.

Our hand-picked Somerset stays include The Crown Hotel in Exford, right in the middle of Exmoor, The Quantock Hide in the Quantock Hills, and Mello View, an off-grid cabin above the Axe Valley. For pubs with rooms, there’s The Queen’s Arms at Corton Denham and The Crossways near Wells, and families can choose from holiday parks at Brean and Berrow. Toad Hall Cottages and Boutique Retreats add dog-friendly cottages across the county.

Every listing tells you how many dogs can come, what it costs and what’s nearby. For ideas, see our dog-friendly days out in Somerset.

Mello View

Winsham, near Chard, Somerset

In 2014 Ed, a chef, and Vicky, a Pilates teacher, swapped London for a crumbling 1950s cowshed above the Axe Valley, and Grand Designs filmed the rebuild. It’s now a five-acre smallholding, and the Gardener’s Shed is its off-grid hideaway: a wood burner, a day bed on the terrace and no WiFi at all. Up to two dogs are welcome, as long as they leave the hens alone.
