Laura and Richard took on Pitt Farm in 2023, along with Nellie, their rescue dog, and ten acres of South Hams hillside. Three of their barn conversions are kept for dogs: Martingale, Mullen and Kimblewick, each with a gated garden and a terrace that gets the evening sun. Out of the gate there’s a bridleway that runs straight to the village pub, and the beaches at Bigbury, South Milton and Mill Bay take dogs all year.

About Pitt Farm Holiday Cottages
Pitt Farm shares its ten acres with alpacas, pygmy goats and a flock of chickens that wander wherever they please. So dogs go on the lead around the cottages, and the chickens keep right of way.
Of the seven cottages, three take dogs. Martingale was once the hay barn and now sleeps 12 across three floors, with a BBQ terrace looking down the valley. Mullen sleeps 7 and has an 80 square metre walled terrace that holds the afternoon sun. Kimblewick, sleeping 9, sits next to the pool with a lawn out front. All three have secure, gated garden areas.
Dogs are £30 each per stay, and Laura and Richard ask that they stay downstairs and off the sofas. There’s no exercise field on site (the alpacas and the zip wire got there first), but the bridleway alongside the farm makes a good morning loop and finishes at the pub. For a proper run, Bigbury-on-Sea, South Milton Sands, North Sands and Mill Bay, the National Trust beach across the water from Salcombe, all welcome dogs year-round.
Back at the farm, each cottage gets the indoor pool to itself for an hour at a time, and there’s tennis, a games barn, boules and a zip wire for anyone with energy left. The honesty shop sells fresh bread, croissants and eggs from the resident hens. Kingsbridge is 5 miles away, Totnes 9 and Dartmouth 10.
The cottages are rated Four Star Gold and Five Star by VisitEngland, and came third in the country for self-catering at the 2022 VisitEngland Awards.
